Most botox treatment will be conducted in the practice's second location at the Blue Davenport for a Spa-like experience however it can also be incorporated into your dental appointment with us.

Why is botox used in cosmetic dentistry?

Botox has been very popular in dental offices the past several years. It is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles and it can also be used to treat many conditions like blephrospasms, TMJ disorder, bruxism and facial muscle training for fitting appliances like dentures. Botox can provide relief to a number of medical concerns, and improve complexion. Botox slows down muscle contractions when injected into the muscle it inhibits acetylcholine neurotransmitter. It shows promise for treating muscle and skin formations such as:

Gummy Smile

Some patients have a large amount of gum tissue showing which when relaxed, the midface muscles can be relaxed to reduce the appearance of a gummy smile.

Wrinkles, lines and creases

Botox can relax these muscles and diminish them greatly. All muscles are activated, and in smile rejuvenation we can consider all lines of the face when assisting in your treatment.

Denture and restorations

When recieving dentures, implants or other orthodontic devices, the relaxation of the muscles can help relieve pain or discomfort from the change in occlusion.

TMD/TMJ

If you have diagnosed TMD and issues with TMJ botox can be used to relieve tension in both the masseters and the temporalis muscles leading to less wear on the teeth, less loosening of dental treatments such as crowns and fillings, reduction of bony growths, and major relief in the jaws.

Migraines

When tension headaches are diagnosed by the neurologist, the dentist can help relieve tension headaches that can be debilitating by helping to cause these muscles to relax with botox treatment.

Blepharospasms

Blinking or involuntary movements like twitching that are uncontrollable can be addressed with botox and part of the plan with smile rejuvenation.

Wide Jaw line

If a patient would like to slim the appearance of their jaw line, botox can be injected into the masseter and create a slimmer facial jaw. The injection is esthetic, or cosmetic but can be used

Upside down smile line

Botox can be used to improve the smile at rest.

Medical Microneedling

Microneedling, also a wonderful tool for smile rejuvenation also called percutaneous collagen induction therapy, is performed using a pen-shaped device, electrically powered, with tiny needles that make precise, microscopic punctures in the skin. Scars are not formed by these “micro-injuries”; they work by helping to encourage the skin to repair itself naturally through a remodeling process. The skin is first numbed, and the procedure takes approximately 40 minutes.

The process starts with inflammation, which stimulates the skin to produce new collagen (the elastic fibers that make skin tight, smooth, and youthful). Collagen levels in the skin decline as we age, and new collagen can be produced when the skin is in repair mode. We use certain specialized creams to help encourage the skin's natural abilities to heal.

Three to five monthly or biweekly treatments are recommended to achieve desired results. Through a series of sessions, microneedling can increase elastic skin fibers. Microneedling also helps the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin), which naturally thins with age, become thicker and tauter. Fresh skin then comes to the surface, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, photoaging and discolorations.

You may book any microneedling procedures with Dr. Kricket Koehn but you must first see Dr. Koehn for a consultation to discuss expected results and care instructions.
